Oz Harvest and Ronni Kahn – A crusade against food wastage

In 2004, Ronni Kahn, founded OZ HARVEST, after noticing the huge volume of good food going to waste from the hospitality industry.  Starting in Sydney with just one van, she delivered 4,000 meals in the first month to many charities supporting people in need across the country.

Oz Harvest is now Australia’s leading food rescue organisation, delivering directly to more than 1000 charities. It has grown considerably over the last 14 years, developing a food rescue model which will be introduced to other countries around the globe.

Education about healthy eating, nutrition, preventing food waste and sustainability is central to what OzHarvest is all about. The organisation has had a profound impact on the environment by saving thousands of tonnes of food from landfill, and on clients of charities who are able to eat quality, nutritious food.

Now there is a new OzHarvest Café by Gratia in Bourke Street, Surry Hills, Sydney. OzHarvest has partnered with Gratia and Folonomo who share the same vision for a better world. Together, Gratia and OzHarvest are feeding the homeless with rescued food. “This is the perfect partnership as it brings together passionate people and delicious food for a great cause. For the next three months Gratia customers can support OzHarvest through the simple act of buying a meal to give a meal. We believe that food is love and what better way to show you care than investing in brunch with purpose!”
